Alta View Elementary SCC Minutes

September 21, 2021 3:15 p.m.

This meeting was held in person in the Alta View Faculty room.

Meeting convened at 3:20 p.m. by Rachel Anderson.

  1. Welcome/Roll Call:

Present:          Rachel Anderson (Chair), Pamela Brooks, Rebeca Brown, Scott Jameson, Noelle Jones, Allyn Kau, Jorge López, Jennifer Rupp, Kristy Whiteside.

Not present:   Jessica Davies, Beth Floyd, Jackie Jones.

Visitors:           None

  1. Elect 2021-22 Leadership
  2. Chair: Scott Jameson moved to nominate Rachel Anderson to continue serving as Chair. Pamela Brooks seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.
  3. Vice Chair: Rebecca Brown moved to nominate Beth Floyd to continue serving as Vice Chair. Pamela Brooks seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.
  4. Secretary: Jorge López moved to nominate himself to serve as Secretary. Scott Jameson seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.
  5. Approve SCC Minutes from 5/8/21

A motion was made and seconded to approve the May 8, 2021 minutes. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. Review of SCC Requirements
  2. Rachel Anderson reviewed the Bylaws and Rules of Order with the Council. No changes were made.
  3. Rachel Anderson confirmed that all the members had attended the required SCC trainings. There were no further questions.
  4. Approve the 2021-22 Meeting Schedule

A motion was made by Scott Jameson and seconded by Kristie Whiteside to approve the May 8, 2021 minutes. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

 

  1. School Safety
  2. Scott Jameson explained the school’s plans in regards to drills and safety. The first drill (fire) was held in September and it was successful.
  3. Jameson gave a COVID-19 update. He explained how the school has gone through all of the procedures. He underlined the differences between last year’s procedures and this new school year’s procedures. The plan and procedures are available in the District’s 2021-22 COVID plan documents. Mr. Jameson noted that the school, so far, has had few COVID-19. At this time there are less than five cases in the school.
  1. Plan Reviews
  1. Teacher and student success plan (TSSP)

Scott Jameson reviewed the TSSP plan and last year’s results with the Council. He explained the goals in reading and math. Students who attended in-person last year showed some growth, but school wide goals were not reached. It was underlined by the achievement coach, Noelle Jones, that due to the huge impact that COVID is making on teaching and learning process, the goals for this year are set at 75% instead of 80%. Mr. Jameson also presented data showing improvement in terms of behavior both in regards to minor and major incidents.

  1. LAND Trust Plan

Mr. Jameson reviewed the school’s LAND Trust Plan. We have several Academic Interventionist positions still open, and the Council discussed how this impacts the ability to provde support to students in need.

  1. Safe Walking Routes

Mr. Jameson explained what the Safe Walking Routes Plan is, and requested that any ideas or issues concerning walking routes (such as bus itineraries or kindergarten drop/off and pick/up) be forwarded to him.

  1. Positive Behavior Plan

Mr. Jameson briefly explained the school’s positive behavior plan and how the teachers and administration address behavior issues.

  1. School Safety and Digitial Citizenship Plan

Mr. Jameson briefly reviewed what the School’s Safety and Digital Citizenship plans are. The Council discussed how phishing emails are an issue District wise. Different members shared situations where they were receiving malware emails that were being sent in Scott Jameson’s name. We have to be aware of these emails and check that the email address has @canyonsdistrict.org, otherwise we should send them in to the junk mail.
