  1. Welcome and Roll Call: Katie Rowley, Chair

  1. Approve Minutes from SCC Meeting on September 19, 2023
    • Motion to approve: Dawn Davis
    • Second: Rachel Anderson

  1. School Safety Updates: Scott Jameson, Principal
    • 10/17, 2:30 secure drill – all inside/outside doors are locked and business continues as normal.
    • Discovered card reader/badges did not work properly, item to be fixed and it will be tested after hours (should be fixed by 10/18/2023.
    • Teachers closest to the outside doors will be checking to ensure doors are locked properly.
    • Next drill: 11/7 – bomb threat. This drill doesn’t include students.

 

  1. Request for Cell Tower Expenditure: Scott Jameson, Principal
  • Lunch funding for Spanish full-time assistant. Scott proposed that we provide school lunch to her for the year; $1000.
    • Motion to approve: Rachel Anderson

  • Scott explained that we have about $5000 left currently. We do not have a cell tower on our property, but we get local funds, money will be moved into an school lunch account. If there is any leftover it will be moved back into the account at the end of the year.

 

  1. Review and Approve Annual Reports: Scott Jameson, Principal
    • School Safety Report for 23-24 Discussion Notes
      • Our primary concern is the same concern we have had for 15 months – still working to resolve this issue. (We are withholding the details from the public minutes for security purposes.) Karen offered to help push the resolution through with the Board.
      • Faculty meeting 11/7 – Scott will have a conversation with teachers about communication with students using the Mindful Room. Parents would like to know if students are using the mindful room frequently or if the day was difficult. Scott will propose that the communication is sent at the teacher’s discretion (every time, regular/frequent occurrence, and/or something completely out of the ordinary for the kid)

        • What does Alta View do?
          • Students need to use their own unique logins/passwords
          • Lanschool – management system for supervision
          • As an elementary school, we have the strictest lockdowns with filter. If there are any issues or loopholes, teachers are instructed to contact the district. School filters only work on school devices with school logins. If students are logged in to their username on a personal device at home, school filters will not apply.
          • 6 digital citizenship lessons are presented throughout the school year, they are embedded in the Thrive Time lessons. Monthly communication sent to the community on Digital Citizenship tips.
          • This is done in place of just focusing on Digital Citizenship for 1 month.
        • The STEM and Library teachers use Netsmart, Commonsense to help support digital citizenship.
        • We would like to provide a digital citizenship night for parents.
          • Karen Pedersen will check with the district to see if they will be doing “Canyoneering Night”.
          • Katie will follow up with Karen via email on 10/18/2023.

        • Safe Walking Route Report for 24-25 Discussion Notes
          • Safe walking route map and descriptions of the zones are available
            • Marco, Katie & Jessica – signed approval
          • Students should only be at school from 8:00-8:15 and should line up when they arrive (no playground supervision/access)
          • We had a discussion about the crosswalk between Violet & Carnation. Karen and Scott explained that it is the responsibility of the city and/or county. Susan Edwards works with the city and is working to get crosswalks repainted. Things like snow removal, weed overgrowing & bees/wasps are a combination of the county’s responsibility and homeowners.
            • Dawn Davis will be reaching out to the county, too.

  1. Review Current TSSP/Land Trust Plans (23-24)
    • Scott will present more information in the following meetings:
      • January: Data
      • February: Develop Goals
      • March: Action Plan
    • Goals:
      • 68% K-5 at/above proficiency in math using Acadience
      • 70% K-5 at/above proficiency in math using Acadience/Reading Inventory
      • Decrease by 10% students who exhibit moderate/high ratings on the SRSS-IE behavior system
