Business Items:

  1. School Safety Drill Update: Scott Jameson. The May safety drill was conducted on May 5th at the faculty meeting. This drill was a public health drill, and only the faculty and staff were involved. It appears that the mitigation effects at the school have appeared to be successful during the 2020-21 school year. This was the last drill of the school year.

This was an informative agenda item only.

  1. Staffing update for 2021-22 school year: Scott Jameson.  Alta View will have two retirements in the 2020-21 school year. Two additional faculty members will be leaving as well. Alta View is fully staffed for the next year and we were successful with our new teacher hires.

This was an informative agenda item only.

  1. Discussion of a plan to check in with faculty in November regarding new curriculum workloads: Vickie Hulderson. Concerns were brought up in the April 2021 meeting about the workload for teachers next year. Due to new curriculums, COVID catch-up with students, etc., the concern is that teachers may feel overwhelmed next fall. It was suggested that there should be a place to give the teachers a voice as to how they are feeling about the workload in the 2021-22 school year. The teachers present at the SCC meeting expressed that they do feel they have avenues to express themselves at the school currently. It was expressed that at the school level, teachers feel heard and able to voice concerns. There was some concern expressed that the same level of expression doesn’t seem to be available at the district level. It was determined that we do not currently feel a need to have a check-in with the SCC regarding teacher workloads during the 2021-22 school year. This can be re-assessed in the next school year.

This was an informative agenda item only.

  1. Equity discussion: Amy Gutierrez. Gutierrez put together a presentation about personal biases. This presentation includes opportunities for faculty to discover their personal biases. It is a collaborative presentation that includes goals for removing labels and recognizing biases we may have. Ideally, these presentations would be used with the Faculty and Staff at Alta View Elementary. It was proposed that this presentation be given to the SCC in the fall of the 2021-22 school year and feedback be given for the possibility of using this material and other materials in faculty meetings.

This was an informative agenda item only.

Other Input/Questions:

This is the final meeting of the 2020-21 school year.

Meeting adjourned at 4:27 PM by Rachel Anderson
