3. School Safety Updates

ASafety drill update:

Mr. Jameson reported that the school conducted a fire drill on January 10. He said that the drill went well, and additionally that they were able to try something new. We had a 4th grader on crutches, so Mr. Flink was able to bring her down the stairs through the evacuate truck. A shelter in place drill is coming up on February 7. We will lock the outside doors down and keep everybody inside.

B. Covid-19 Update

Mr. Jameson noted that presently there is no one in the building, as the District has closed the schools for a temporary reset. There is school transmission of Covid this year, whereas we don’t believe there was any last year. Alta View Elementary is currently in “tier 3” (15 or more cases) of the District’s Covid protocols. There are 25 cases currently reported in the school. With Covid numbers rising due to the Omicron variant, we are getting close to “test-to-stay” protocols, however this testing program has been suspended due to lack of testing supplies and staff power to administer due to the rampant transmission of Omicron in the state. There is a school board meeting today to see what is the next plan. Maintaining staffing has been an issue. No just teachers, but other workers like interventionists.

  1. 2022-23 Safe Routes Plan Discussion and Approval

Mr. Jameson explained the safe routes plan map. He mentioned one issue coming from parents and some teachers concerning entrances and exits. He explained that we have finally resolved the situation with daycare vans in the bus pickup area, and it is finally working more smoothly now.

There was a motion to approve the safe routes plan. Kristy Whiteside seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. Approval of Addendum to the 2021-22 TSSP and Land Trust Plans

Mr. Jameson discussed a proposed addendum to the current 2021-22 plans. We are currently five aides short. It is hard to keep people because there are high expectations and the pay is low. As it looks unlikely to find some personnel and we cannot carry-over the money for next year, we need to find another use for the money originally intended for interventionists. Mr. Jameson presented a document with proposed alternative uses for the money.

The proposed addendum has received great an input from the school teams. Jackie Jones showed concern about the technology part because of the great amount money. Everybody agreed on the fact the staff would be the best way to spend the money on it, but due to the shortage of people, we need to find a way to spend that money on something good for students. Jessica Davies suggested using the money to hire private tutoring companies to come after school. Mr. Jameson will explore this option and we will bring back to the group.

Pam Brooks made the motion to approve the 2021-22 TSSP and Land Trust Plan addendum. Noelle Jones seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. Review School Data in Preparation for Development of 2022-23 TSSP And Land Trust Plans

Mr. Jameson presented data prepared in preparation for the 2022-23 TSSP and Land Trust plans. He walked through the details with the Council and discussed how these numbers presented are preliminary and need to be finalized with real numbers.

  1. Update on Possible Cell Tower on Alta View Grounds

Mr. Jameson reported that the proposal to place a cell tower on Alta View property was heard on a “first reading” at the District school board meeting on January 4, and it might be heard on a “second reading” at tonight’s meeting. Assuming the plan is approved, we want the final word on the cell tower’s design.

  1. Report on January 12, 2021 SCC Meeting at School District Office

This meeting was cancelled in light of the Omicron Covid surge.

  1. Other Input/Questions
