Business Items:

  1. School Safety Drill Update: Scott Jameson.

February 10, 2021, was the shelter-in-place drill. Shelter-in-place is one of the most common things that happen in real life. This is when the doors to the outside community are locked and is typically done in a situation where there may be a potential threat from the outer community. The drill went as planned and was successful. The next drill is a hazardous material drill and will be conducted with the faculty on the first Wednesday in March.

This was an informative agenda item only.

  1. Development/Feedback on the working draft of the Teacher and Student Success Plan (TSSP) and the Land Trust Plan for 2021-22: Scott Jameson and Noelle Jones.

With the Building Leadership Team, some proposed goals have been created for the 2021-22 school year for the TSSP. These goals will have some similarities with the current year. These are proposed goals only and will be discussed more in-depth at later SCC meetings. Ms. Jones presented the current data for both reading and math for the current 2020-21 school year. There is some evidence that there has been a little bit of a “COVID slide” in some of the grades due to the lost months in the spring due to the pandemic. The school is hopeful that students will continue to improve and catch up from the lost in-person school time due to the pandemic. Other grades are progressing and will hopefully meet the goals that were set for the 2020-21 school year.

Our current school behavioral goal is related to decreasing both internalizing and externalizing behaviors by 10%. We have seen significant progress and are on target for reaching this goal for the 2020-21 school year. Teachers periodically survey the students (SRSS-IE) to help identify students who may be struggling and might need additional support. This is completed district-wide and helps measure the social-emotional well-being of students. This survey is completed three times each school year.

For math, individual grade goals are proposed, which are based on the current data for next year. The BLT team feels that it is important to have a math goal for the 2021-22 school year so that math will be a priority.

The BLT is proposing three goals for the 2021-22 school year, which is an increase of one goal from the 2020-21 school year. The pandemic has created some challenges with student learning and it may take some time to get students back on course for the next school year.

The reading goal for next year will be similar to the goal for this year, with some adjustments made to the benchmark to account for the challenges related to the pandemic.

The math goal is a new goal for the 2021-22 school year. This goal will be related to student proficiency and fluency with their basic math facts, which will increase the ability for students to understand math concepts. The goal is a proficiency benchmark of 75% in the testing of student’s basic math facts.

The behavioral goal is the third goal suggested for the 2021-22 school year. This goal is the same goal as the 2020-21 school year. This goal is only measured on students who attend Alta View for the entire school year.

The action plan will be presented to the SCC during the March 2021 meeting for feedback and adjustments.

Motion to approve the goals as presented for the 2021-22 school year made by Vickie Hulderson and seconded by Pamela Brooks. Motion passed.

Other Input/Questions:

A request was made by Allyn Kau to have the action plan for the TSSP goals out in advance for more time for SCC to digest prior to the meeting.

Motion to adjourn by Rachel Anderson at 4:13 PM.

The next SCC meeting will be on 03/16/2021
