DISCUSSSION NOTES:
-
- The target is that all students will attend school at least 95% of the school year (goal) – only miss 9 days total for the year.
- REWARD: every quarter we will do one drawing per grade for students to get a prize from the prize closet for students meeting the attendance goal.
- These prizes are being funded through community partnerships, PTA fun run funding and cell tower money.
- Students who miss 10% of the school year can have a significant negative effect on student achievement and may put a student at academic risk. Only 60% of Alta View’s students met the attendance goal for quarter one.
- To help increase the attendance, we are looking at more frequent attendance incentives or acknowledgments for students meeting the goals. ie. Students earning a ribbon or something for meeting those goals weekly or class winners weekly, etc.
- A student is considered chronically absent when missing 10% (18 days) or more in a school year.
-
- Scott to add to letter #2 – students will be unenrolled if they have missed 10 consecutive days without having any communication from the home to school.
- Scott to add a note about keeping kids at home when they have tested positive for COVID-19.
- Scott will work with Kristina to include weekly updates as part of the Alta View Updates about a daily attendance announcement/post.
