Business Items:
- School Safety Drill Update: Scott Jameson
January 11, 2021- School-wide fire drill. The next drill will be a shelter-in-place drill in February with faculty. This drill reviews the process for an occasion where something is happening in the surrounding neighborhood that requires the school to keep the children safe within the school. Mr. Jesse Flink is the safety rep for Alta View Elementary.
This was an informative agenda item only.
- Digital Citizenship Plan update: Julie Cornia
On December 7, 2020, a slideshow sent out to parents for internet safety. Materials have also been sent out to faculty the last few months. Mrs. Julie Cornia and Ms. Kesha Prince will continue to work on some training and information for digital citizenship week and for ongoing training for faculty. Mrs. Cornia asked for feedback from the SCC regarding other items that should be included in Digital Citizenship, as well as general feedback regarding the current plans.
A suggestion was made for the District to include a portion into Digital Citizenship that would teach students about appropriate physical care with regards to computer learning (ie- breaks, eye safety, body movement, etc). Feedback was also given that the parents appreciate the materials that are given out to parents the same week that the students will be learning Digital Citizenship.
The SCC affirmatively felt that enough information is given to the SCC and parents to help parents understand the importance of Digital Citizenship. The SCC also feels that the plans for Digital Citizenship week are an adequate way to present materials to the students. The SCC also felt that the information and explanations given to the SCC was adequate and acceptable.
Motion to approve the Digital Citizenship plan by Vickie Hulderson and seconded by Pam Brooks. Motion approved.
- TSSP and Land Trust Development Plan for 2021/2022 Training: Scott Jameson
TSSP (Teacher and Student Success Plan) provides the elementary school with additional yearly money that we did not have a few years ago (approximately $80,000). Land Trust money has been around for a few decades and is the money that is made from the Land Trust in the State of Utah. Money is allocated from a percentage of the interest that is earned yearly. This is approximately about $80,000 as well for our school. The law states that the money should be spent the year that it comes in, so our budgeting goal should have as close to a zero balance at the end of the year. Yearly grade and school goals are set to determine where the money would be best spent and to gauge if our school is utilizing the money effectively. School data will be analyzed to help us identify our goals for next year. The current year includes a reading goal and a social-emotional goal. We can set goals that will build on the previous year’s goals if desired.
The SCC will work in conjunction with BLT in the school to come up with goals and a plan for the next school year.
A recent parent survey was given and the data/results were available for the SCC to view. Our school had 145 responses from 608 students at the school. This is approximately a 15-18% return rate as all parents are given an opportunity to participate in the survey. Mr. Jameson would like input on ideas to have a better return rate in the future.
This was an informative agenda item only.
Other Input/Questions:
No other input or questions.
Motion to adjourn by Jackie Jones at 3:55 PM.
The next SCC meeting will be on 02/16/2021
