  1. Approve SCC Minutes from 11/15/22

John Castro made a motion to approve the Minutes from 11/15/22. Dawn Davis seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. School Safety Drill Update

Scott Jameson explained that a fire drill was conducted on Jan. 12, 2023. Mr. Jameson took a 3rd grader to see if his absence would be noticed. A problem was found in sweeping the area since the 1st and 3rd grade bathrooms were not swept and the boy was not discovered. He was quickly reported as missing by the 3rd grade. The next drill will be a hazardous materials drill on Feb. 9, 2023 in the faculty meeting.

  1. 2023-24 Safe Routes Plan Discussion and Approval

Scott Jameson explained that this plan is due January 27. The school has not received any complaints of anything that should be added to the plan.

Katie Rowley made a motion to approve the Safe Walking Routes Plan. John Castro seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. Share 2021-22 Final Land Trust Report

Scott Jameson explained that this is on hold because the School District said to wait. We will revisit it next month.

  1. 2023-24 TSSP/Land Trust Plans. Review school data and share draft of goals proposed by the Building Leadership Team

Principal Scott Jameson presented this topic with help from second grade teacher, Tami Malan, from the Building Leadership Team (BLT). The TSSP goal can only include academic goals; however, the Land Trust can include academic and other goals.

Reading goal: The BLT decided to increase the goal for next year back to 75% (in reading only). Tami Malan explained why they chose to increase the goal. She said it was because of several improvements that include the 95% Program, recent and ongoing LETRS training, and the new Wonders curriculum.

Math goal: The BLT decided to change the goal for next year, not by increasing the percentage, but by using the Composite rather than Computation scores from the Acadience tests. We may shoot for higher if we reach our goals earlier than expected, although this would not be written into the TSSP/Land Trust goals.

There was a discussion about the 5% of children who do not respond to the 95% Program, and Louisa Whittaker-Brooks question about retaining children in their grade level. Mr. Jameson explained that research almost always shows that this is detrimental to children, not so much at the time, but that the drop-out rate in high school increases among these students, especially if they were retained more than once.

Multilingual Learners: One group of students that struggles to make the progress that the school and district would like to see is second language learners. Alyson Jensen, a former teacher at the school who is bilingual in English and Spanish, has been hired to work with multilingual learners to help them progress.

Behavior goal: The goal is to decrease internalizing and externalizing behaviors by 20%. This level is determined by the Student Risk Screening Scale (SRSS-IE) surveys currently being filled out by teachers.

Dawn Davis made a motion to approve the TSSP/Land Trust goals. Katie Rowley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. Report on January 11, 2023 SCC Chair/Vice Chair Meeting at School District Office

SCC Chair Rachel Anderson explained that the School District offered two sessions for SCC Chairs/Vice Chairs to meet and have a round table discussion about school issues. Rachel Anderson and Vice Chair Katie Rowley each attended one of the two sessions.

Katie Rowley reported that there is a statewide Facebook page that she can share with others who are interested. Alta View’s Social Emotional Learning (SEL) program is called Life Skills. The District is rolling out their program and Alta View wants to continue with ours until they work the bugs out (maybe next Fall).

There was an audit on the SCC website and they said we are at 80% compliance. Our agendas and minutes have been good, but they were not able to find the announcements of meetings. They were up there, but they didn’t see it.

Rachel Anderson noted that they also discussed the upcoming legislative session, and issues that may affect school such as school vouchers.

  1. Other Input/Questions
