  1. Approve SCC Minutes from 9/20/22

Pam Brooks made a motion to approve the Minutes from 9/20/22. John Castro seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. School Safety Update

    1. Safety drill update

Scott Jameson stated that a shelter in place drill will be this coming Monday, October 24 at 1:25 p.m. This is the scenario that is most likely to actually happen at the school. In fact, this happened during the 2017-2018 year. All outside doors and windows are locked and blinds to the outside are pulled down. Otherwise, all classes and indoor activities continue as usual.

2. Review School Safety Report from District

Scott Jameson explained that SCC members should think of safety concerns that could be addressed. One item mentioned was doors being propped open during school hours. This has been addressed by the SAC and wooden door jams are being removed from most areas.

Scott Jameson explained that we got a “B” score and were happy with that score. We were just barely below the A level. There are two areas where we have not shown the desired improvement. One is with kids in Special Education (SPED) and the other is Multilingual Learners (ML). See action plan to address the situation with ML students below in the Addendum section.

  1. Approve Addendum to 2022-23 TSSP

Scott Jameson explained that we were able to carry over $52,000 from last year, but it had to go towards staffing. We had earmarked money to pay for 2/3 of a kindergarten teacher. Then the state gave us funding for full-day kindergarten and we were able to hire another teacher and had no need to pay for part of one of the teachers. We would like to fund 3 more hours for our MTSS Specialist (Jill Burk) and hire another MTSS person (Lindsay Rhodes) to help, especially during recess with 20-30 kids that especially need support. Jill works all week, full time. We need some extra money ($32,000 for Jill and to fund this third staff member Lindsay).

We are at a “B,” and barely below the “A” level. We are happy with this score, but there are two groups (special education and multi-lingual learners) that haven’t made the progress that we would like to see. Individual Learning Plans need to be developed for each student in the multi-lingual learners. We would like to hire a person to help these students to thrive. We are hoping to hire Allyson Jensen, a former teacher who just retired, to do this job. She is bilingual in Spanish and English and has many years worth of experience teaching. We do not know how much this would cost.

Noelle Jones made a motion to approve TSSP Amendment as presented. Katie Rowley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

  1. Consider Proposed Alta View Elementary School Mission Statement

Parents, students, and educators working together to build a community where all children will achieve their personal best in all aspects of education. We encourage ALL to become responsible, productive, creative, and caring members of society. We strive to “Work hard and have fun!”

Scott Jameson explained that our school has never had a mission statement, and the BLT team came up with this suggestion. The SCC liked the mission statement. Katie Rowley suggested starting the statement with, “We are…” adding “inclusive” after creative.

  1. Other Input/Questions

None

  1. Adjourn

Rachel Anderson adjourned the meeting at at 3:58.
