  1. Approve SCC Minutes from 2/21/23

Dawn Davis asked for a correction to the February minutes, which indicated that she was both present and not present at the meeting. She was in fact not present. She also asked for a correction to one of the motions that stated that she made the motion.

John Castro made a motion to approve the minutes from 2/21/23 with the proposed corrections. Dawn Davis seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

Scott Jameson took this time to make a few announcements. A new marquee has been installed in front of the school, to replace the old one that wasn’t working. The HVAC system has been fixed. The school now has been informed of two teacher departures for next year, and those names will be announced later. Lastly, the school has applied for a Beverly Taylor Sorenson Grant for a professional in the arts field to teach a Brain Boosters class.

  1. School Safety Updates

Scott Jameson reported that the school conducted the carbon monoxide drill. Students leave things behind and everyone leaves the building. The next drill is the Great Utah Shakeout earthquake drill on April 20 at 10:15 am. Kids stop, drop, and cover and then evacuate after the “shaking” stops.

  1. 2023-24 TSSP/Land Trust Plan Review, Approve, and Sign Signature Sheet

Scott Jameson presented the final TSSP and Land Trust plans which were now ready for approval. The Building Leadership Team (BLT) made some changes to the TSSP/Land Trust Plans. After watching a district board meeting, Mr. Jameson saw that nobody cared whether the goal was high or low, but only if the goal was reached or not. Alta View was one of the few schools that did not reach the goal and that fact was pointed out to the whole district. The BLT decided to have an attainable goal and a stretch goal to keep the school moving upward.

We looked at last year’s data to see how we did and how it compares to this year’s revised goals.

These are some of the goals to help us attain the goals set by the BLT: Number Talks implemented on a larger scale throughout the school; Progress monitoring; Professional Development (PD) for teachers to show how to use the data to adjust instruction; continue to use iReady reading and math for next year (paid from fund this year for next year); the BLT will meet nine times a year and subs are included in the plan; to help students learn their math facts, we are considering software to be done at home; hire and train a Multi-Tiered Systems of Support (MTSS) specialist to help vulnerable children with math; and continue to implement A/B schedule for SPED to use less staff to do the job.

Complete copies of the approved plans can be obtained from the school.

Pam Brooks made a motion to approve the 2023-24 TSSP and Land Trust Plans. Katie Rowley seconded the motion. The motion passed unanimously by those members who were present at the meeting.

SCC members who were present were asked to sign the approval sheet.
