Dear Parents and Guardians,

If you read our procedures for drop-off and pickup while you were registering online, please disregard that information. Due to continued construction on the playground side of our building, we have a different procedure that we need to implement. This might be a long message, but it is very important.

THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:

On August 23rd, the first day of school for 1st through 5th grades, we are celebrating our amazing students and helping them start a new school year. If your child is in first, second, third, fourth or fifth grade, they will participate in this the Red Carpet Celebration. We want our students to know that we think they are superstars. They will start the new school year out walking the red carpet, as all superstars do. We would love to have parents here to help cheer them into the building and wave them on their way for the first day of school.

DROP-OFF ON THE FIRST DAY OF SCHOOL:

You enter the pick-up/drop-off loop from Larkspur and exit on Crocus. There are two lanes in the driving loop in front of the school. The lane closest to the sidewalk is for student drop-off. The lane further away is for drive-through to exit the school property. Drop-off your child(ren) from the lane closest to the school. If there are cars stopped in front of you, pull into the drive-through lane to exit. DO NOT drop-off your children from the drive-through lane, that is dangerous.

On that first day, we will start the day outside and parade into the building. We would like you to hurry and drop off your students if you are using the loop so that we can try and keep the front of the building open for the parade. If you're staying for the parade, park in the parking lot. Teachers will be outside with grade level signs. Look for the teachers in your child's new grade level. Have your child line up behind those teachers and then find a spot to cheer. Teachers will also be out, around 8:05 to help direct students to the correct lines. If you come earlier than 8:05 AM, wait for the teachers, they will be out soon.

Students will be lining up on the sidewalk, on the right side of the main office entrance. We need our parents, friends and loved ones willing to clap and give a big cheer to be on the left side of the main office entrance. The first bell rings at 8:15 AM. Shortly after that, we will be starting our parade into the building. We will parade our students through the front door of our beautiful new building and right into their classrooms.

We want them to know they are superstars, and that we believe in them. We hope you will help us celebrate that first day of school. If you have business to do in our front office that very first day, we encourage you to come early or wait until after the Red Carpet Celebration. We want the front of the school and the doorways clear for our celebration.

Our Kindergarten students will have their very own Red Carpet Celebration when they start on August 28th.  Supplemental and AM Kindergarten classes will celebrate in the morning and PM classes will celebrate in the afternoon. If you have kindergarten students, plan on greeting them and cheering for them on August 28.

PICK-UP AT SCHOOL DISMISSAL TIME:

WALKERS:

Students walking home will be released to the sidewalks to go home. Please encourage your students to come right home. I encourage you to take time before school starts to map out the way they will walk as they enter and exit the school property. It may be a longer route than they are used to going due to construction and changes in the parking. Please tell your children to not walk through the parking lot, roadways, dirt areas or construction areas. Those areas are dangerous and our students’ safety comes first. If it takes a little longer to walk home safely but, it is well worth it.

The neighborhood pathway off of Carnation that comes into the back of the school property is closed at this time. It will open again, but not until the playground is ready to go. We expect that to be sometime in the first part of September. Until that time you cannot use that path. It is fenced off coming into the school property.

NO BIKES, SCOOTERS AND SKATE BOARDS AT THIS TIME:

We will eventually have outside racks to park bikes, scooters, and skateboards. However, those items are not installed yet. There is no place in the building to store them. They will not fit in the lockers or in the classrooms. Therefore, we are not allowing bikes, scooters or skateboards at this time, unless you're willing to have them just lay outside and hope that they do not disappear.

BUS RIDERS:

Students are picked-up and dropped-off in the small loop on the east on Larkspur. No cars are allowed in that loop. The Transportation Department determines the routes. If you have questions, please call them 801-826-5252.

STUDENTS WAITING TO BE PICKED UP:

You enter the pick-up/drop-off loop from Larkspur and exit on Crocus. The area for picking-up students will be the front of the school. There is no other area for picking-up students unless you arrange for them to walk somewhere off the campus and pick them up there. Please use the crosswalks. There are two lanes in the loop. The lane closest to the sidewalk is for pick-up. The lane further away is for the drive-through. For safety issues, we will be holding the students behind the flagpole area and not let them get close to the street until you show up. We will not load any car from the drive-through lane. So please don't drive in the drive-through lane and call your children to come get in the car. That is unsafe and we will stop them from doing that. We will be loading children as quickly as possible because we know your time is valuable.

To help us out we encourage you to write your last name on a paper in large letters with a dark marker and attach it to your visor. As you come close to the front of the building, pull the visor down so that the teachers on duty can see the name. That enables them to call for the correct student and make sure they get to your car. This especially helps with younger students who may not pay attention to the car that you are driving.

If you are parked in the parking lot, you must walk across the pick-up loop and come get your child from the flagpole area. For safety reasons, we will not let children run across the road in front of the school to get to their parents.

DROP-OFF BEFORE SCHOOL:

This is the procedure you will use every day after the first day of school.

DO NOT drop-off your children from the drive-through lane.

Please drop-off your students at the front of the school. Pull as far forward as you can to allow others behind you to also drop-off at the same time. Students will enter the school building, rather than line up outside. We will have signs that designate the area where each grade level waits until it is time to go to class. When the students enter the foyer area they will go to their assigned section and sit down. This is not a playtime, they will not be allowed to be up and running around.  Instead, they can visit quietly with their friends until the bell rings and the teachers come to get them for class. We believe this is the safest area to wait for class so that students are away from the road and dangerous construction areas. Therefore, we ask that parents drop their students off and not try to come into the foyer area. That area will be filled to capacity with our wonderful students so that we can keep them safe.

Things might seem a little confusing in the beginning. We are asking for your patience. This new, beautiful building is so worth the extra confusion that will happen in the beginning as we settle into our amazing new school.
